There are a vast array of avenues in which the activity of the immune system could possibly be discussed. The maintenance of a healthy immume system is imperative and not an easy task to accomplish in this day and age of intense toxic burdens and ever increasing “super-bugs.”
There is evidence that shows “liposomes are especially effective in treating diseases that affect the phagocytes of the immune system because they tend to accumulate in the phagocytes, which recognize them as foreign invaders (1).” A phagocyte can be defined as “a cell that is able to surround, engulf, and digest microorganisms and cellular debris (2).”
The active form of glutathione when chemically reduced becomes what is called “GSH.” “GSH plays very important roles in 1.) maintaining mitochondrial function and integrity, 2.) regulating cell proliferation, and 3.) supporting the immune system (3).” There are a plethora of issues that cause GSH depletion. It is written that GHS depletion is “…associated with the activation of several types of viruses, including Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1). Raising the GSH concentration inhibits replication…by blocking…the protein that is necessary for proliferation of the virus (4).” In addition, there is evidence that suggests that elevated cortisol levels and depleted glutathione levels might possibly explain some potential immune dysfunctions as well.
In his writing, Dr. Robert D. Milne MD, stated that “there is almost no system, organ, gland, or cell in your body that does not derive great benefit from a massive supply of Vitamin C. A basic component of many enzyme reactions throughout the body, it [vitamin C] has natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral properties….In addition, Vitamin C is still one of the most powerful free radical fighters known to man (5).” It is written that “…beyond its antiviral and antibacterial properties, vitamin C acts as an immunostimulant (6)” and “…is unquestionably the master immune boosting nutrient (7).”
According to pharmacist Clell Fowles, in the book Drugs and Natural Alternatives, “Echinacea …has been employed by man to enhance the immune system.” Fowles continues that there has been testing conducted which suggests that the supplementation with Echinacea does indeed boost immunity (8).
Zinc is a mineral that is vital to the function of the immune system and “…serves a vital role in many immune system reactions (9)” according to the Textbook of Natural Medicine (3rd Edition).
This liposomal combination which includes Glutathione, Vitamin C, Echinacea, and Zinc might possibly enhance the immune system of an individual due to its unique, yet potentially effective, synergism.
