Liposomal Glutathione
Click Here for more information on liposomes and their history.
“The field of free-radical biology is exploding and the list of disease states linked to oxidative stress is growing rapidly. In the past three years, [dated from an August 2008 article] over 38,000 scientific papers have been released dealing with glutathione and its effects on a significant number of these diseases (1).”
Glutathione, “...the most powerful naturally occurring antioxidant in all human cells...(2)” is “...a tripeptide of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine whose deficiency is commonly associated with hemolytic anemia. It functions by taking up and giving off hydrogen. It transports amino acids across cell membranes and conjugates to drugs enabling excretion...(3)”
According to the Wikipedia definition of glutathione, it “...is not an essential nutrient since it can be synthesized from the amino acids L-cysteine, L-glutamic acid, and glycine (4).” However, it becomes an essential nutrient when the liver is overwhelmed with toxins and thus, since “Glutathione is an essential nutrient for the liver’s role as a detoxifying organ. Decreased levels of glutathione lead to a decrease in the liver’s ability to detoxify. Glutathione also has antioxidant activity which is hindered in deficiency states. This could lead to an increase of free-radical damage throughout the body (5).”
It is written that “...metabolically, glutathione has many functions. For example, glutathione plays a substantial role in the functioning of the body’s immune system. Its antioxidant property makes it vital to white blood cells (lymphocytes)-as it allows them to reach their full potential during the oxygen-requiring activity of the body’s immune response...(6).”
There have been several studies completed which showed that there might be a correlation between the lack of glutathione in the system of a Multiple Sclerosis patient and their symptoms. “...Given the potential importance of free radicals in the pathogenesis of MS, use of natural antioxidants as part of natural medicine approach to MS appears indicated (7)."
In addition, Fowles writes that supplementation with Glutathione is said to be especially necessary in individuals who take acetaminophen, because “acetaminophen has been shown to decrease levels of glutathione...in the liver (8).” It is imperative to note that “...without the protection from oxidative injury afforded by glutathione, cells may be damaged or killed (9).”
In conclusion, according to Patrick Holford, founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, “...if there were one measure of your antioxidant ‘IQ,’ it would be the level of glutathione inside your cells... (10).” Therefore, supplementation with this potent antioxidant could possibly be a vital addition to one’s natural health regimen.

Liposomal Resveratrol
Click Here for more information on liposomes and their history.
“Resveratrol is one of a group of antioxidant compounds called polyphenols found in red wine that have been reported to have anti-inflammatory as well as anti cancer properties,” according to WebMD. In addition to being a constituent of red wine, “resveratrol is present in many plants and fruits including red grapes, eucalyptus, spruce, blueberries, mulberries, peanuts and giant knotweed [also known as Japanese Knotweed].” It might be interesting to note that the longer the grape juice is fermented with the grape skins the higher the resveratrol content will be (1).”
There are a vast array of disease processes that might possibly benefit from supplementation with resveratrol which include but are not limited to: diabetes, heart health, anti-aging, improved athletic performance and neurodegenerative diseases.
In an article retrieved from www.mayoclinic.com, it states that “…some research shows that resveratrol could be linked to a reduced risk of inflammation and blood clotting, both of which can lead to heart disease (2).” In addition, according to the National Institutes of Health, “…in addition to cardiovascular function, the scientists found resveratrol to have a variety of positive effects on other age-related problems in mice: treated mice tended to have better bone health…; At 30 months of age, resveratrol treated mice were found to have reduced cataract formation, a condition found to increase with age in control-group mice; Resveratrol enhanced balance and motor coordination in aged animals…;Resveratrol partially mimicked the effects of dietary restriction on the gene expression profiles of liver, skeletal muscle and adipose (fatty) tissue in mice (3).”
It is written that “…administration of resveratrol may protect against oxidative damage caused by high glucose levels. It also reduces diabetic neuropathic pain (4).” In addition, “…the antioxidant activity of resveratrol reduces damage to endothelial cells exposed to nitrate radicals and protects skin cells against damage caused by UV radiation (5).” Resveratrol can be described as “a phytoalexin derived from grapes and other food products with antioxidant and potential chemopreventive activities (6).”
According to a journal article published online in Cell, November 2006, “Mice fed resveratrol for fifteen weeks had better treadmill endurance than controls (7).”
Wikipedia states that “in November 2008, researchers at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University reported that dietary supplementation with resveratrol significantly reduced plaque formation in animal brains, a component of Alzheimer and other Neurodegenerative diseases….In humans it is theorized that oral doses of resveratrol may reduce beta amyloid plaque associated with aging changes in the brain(8).”

Liposomal Curcumin
Click Here for more information on liposomes and their history.
“The yellow spice turmeric, a constituent of curry powder, contains high concentrations of the potent antioxidant curcumin (1).” “Turmeric has been used historically as a compound of Indian Ayurvedic medicine since 1,900 BCE to treat a wide variety of ailments (2).” It was not until “the latter half of the 20th century [that curcumin was identified]…as responsible for most of the biological activity of turmeric (3).”
According to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, “…evidence that curcumin may have anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities has renewed scientific interest in its potential to prevent and treat disease (4).”
In an article written by Kohli et al entitled, “Curcumin: A natural anti-inflammatory agent” it states that “…in instances of acute inflammation, oral administration of curcumin was found to be as effective as cortisone or phenylbutazone, whereas in chronic inflammation it was only half as effective (5).” But, the article indicated that “Deodhar et al have studied the anti-inflammatory action of curcumin in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The study demonstrated a significant improvement in the duration of morning stiffness, walking time and joint swelling (6).” In addition, this article also discusses the concept that “curcumin reduces the neutrophil infiltration in inflammatory conditions and inhibit platelet aggregation….The oxygen radical scavenging activity of curcumin has also been implicated in its anti-inflammatory effects (7).”
In addition to the anti-inflammatory benefits of curcumin, it was also “found to be a very potent antioxidant (8). It is also written that “a large number of studies have revealed that curcumin has wide therapeutic actions such as anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antimicrobial, anticancer, hepatoprotection and neuroprotection, etc….Thus, curcumin may prove as useful for treatment of diseases such as arthritis, cancer, HIV, etc (9).”
Further research is continuing on this topic. “As of 2008, numerous clinical trials in humans were underway, studying the effect of curcumin on numerous diseases including multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, myelodysplastic syndromes, colon cancer, psoriasis, and Alzheimer’s disease (10).”

Liposomal Co-Q10
Click Here for more information on liposomes and their history.
Energy in the cell is produced from ATP via the mitochondria of the cell, also called the cell’s “engine.” It might be interesting to note that “although ATP serves as the energy current for all cells, its quantity is limited. In fact, only about three ounces of ATP are stored in the body at one time!” This is an important fact because it shows that the body must be continually manufacturing energy so that the cells can function in a proper manner. In order to make this energy, the body must have the necessary essential nutrients to do so. CoQ-10 “plays the critical role in the pumping of protons across the mitochondrial membrane (1).”
CoQ-10 is a compound found naturally in the human body and “is present in all body cells…Umbiquione, another name for coenzyme Q-10, was formed from the word ubiquitous because the enzyme was found in all cells in the body (2).” A coenzyme is defined as "...A necessary non-protein component of an enzyme, usually a vitamin or a mineral (3)." The most common of the coenzymes are that of the B vitamin family. In addition, according to Dr. Roland Stocker, “CoQ10 is the only lipid-soluble antioxidant that is synthesized in our bodies (4).”
When supplementation with CoQ-10 is discussed, the first thing that comes to mind is usually the beneficial effects it has on the heart. While there is a vast amount of research available on the cardiac benefits dating back as early as the 1860's, mounting evidence for use with other disease processes is coming to light.
The cells in the body that appear to be the most susceptible to CoQ-10 deficiency "... appears to be greatest in cells that are the most metabolically active (such as those in the heart, brain, immune system, gingiva, and gastric mucosa), since these cells presumably have the highest requirements for CoQ-10 (5)” In theory, one could assume that CoQ-10 supplementation might be needed due to "...nutritional deficiencies; a genetic or acquired defect in CoQ-10 synthesis or utilization; increased tissue needs resulting from a particular illness [and] the requirement to prevent the side effects of medical intervention (6)."
Even though the medical problems associated with a lack of CoQ-10 could be very serious, the positive side is that when treated with an adequate amount of this coenzyme, the disease process in question could possibly be improved significantly. According to pharmacist Clell Fowles, “…Co-Enzyme Q10 is an important supplement to compliment treatment of a disease with medication. The medications [have the potential to] interfere with the body’s ability to produce Co-Q10, so it becomes even more important to increase the amount of Co-Q 10 taken into the body through supplementation (7).”
Clinical Applications
“Striking results have been reported in many patients with advanced CVD [cardiovascular disease], cancer and infectious diseases simply by oral supplementation of Co-Q 10 (8).” It is important to note that “if optimum nutrition is supplied at the cellular level, which means diet, vitamins, minerals, as well as coenzyme Q10, it appears that degeneration [in the body] may be delayed…(9).”
There is a great deal of information available that suggests the relationship between healthy gums and a healthy heart. It is interesting to note that when someone has gum disease, research shows that they are more than likely deficient in CoQ10. “The frequency of a deficiency ranged from 60 percent to 96 percent…however, studies have shown that 86 percent of the patients also had low levels of coenzyme Q-10 in white blood cells, indicating the presence of a systemic imbalance (10).”
In one study, “coenzyme Q10 produced post-surgical healing that was two to three times faster than usual in seven patients suffering from advanced periodontal disease…Coenzyme Q10 may act by improving the energy-dependent processes of healing and tissue repair (11).”
In addition, there are a vast array of disease processes in which the use of CoQ-10 has been studied clinically which include: Parkinson Disease, AIDS/ARC, Cancer, Aging, Gum Disease (Periodontal Disease), Immune Function, Gastric Ulcers, Asthma, Physical Performance, Migraine Headaches, Reproductive Problems, Skin Protection, Strokes and most extensively cardiovascular diseases. Given that CoQ-10 plays a role in the function of all cells of the body, supplementing with CoQ-10 could indeed promote improved cellular function. Improved function on the cellular level, in addition to modification of diet and lifestyle, could possibly thwart these disease processes once and for all.
It is obvious with the above information that supplementation with CoQ-10 could be an integral part of one’s supplementation program. When making the decision as to what supplements should be take, don’t forget CoQ-10…it might just be your fountain of youth!

Liposomal Vitamin C
Click Here for more information on liposomes and their history.
Vitamin C, probably the most studied of all nutritional supplements due to the research of Dr. Linus Pauling and his collegues, “…is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is necessary to form collagen, an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for the healing of wounds, and for the repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth (1).” It is imperative that Vitamin C be continually replaced since it is a water-soluble vitamin in which the body cannot store. “Leftover amounts of the vitamin leave the body through the urine (2)” therefore this supplements needs continually replaced.
It is imperative to supplement with Vitamin C for a plethora of reasons. Robert Cathcart III, MD, a widely published authority on the topic who is said to have treated over 11,000 patients with Vitamin C successfully, stated that “…vitamin C functions as a free-radical scavenger, neutralizing the immunosuppressive toxins produced by infectious diseases (3).” It is also written that “…people deficient in Vitamin C are far more susceptible to environmental pollutants…[in addition] evidence also suggests that vitamin C deficiency hampers the body’s own detoxification process (4).”
Dating back for decades, there have been a vast array of studies conducted on the varied benefits of vitamin C supplementation. But, according to Patrick Holford, founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, there have been more than a dozen qualities of Vitamin C identified that assist with the increase in one’s immunity. “It helps immune cells mature, improves the performance of antibodies and macrophages, and is itself antiviral and antibacterial, as well as able to destroy toxins produced by bacteria. In addition, it is a natural antihistamine, calming down inflammation…(5).” Holford also writes that when one is faced with excessive levels of the stress hormone cortisol, it could possibly be controlled with sufficient Vitamin C.
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis [RA] have been shown to have significantly decreased “…white blood cell and plasma concentrations of vitamin C….Supplementation with vitamin C increases SOD activity, reduces histamine levels, and provides some anti-inflammatory action…(6).”
“By encapsulating Vitamin C in nano-scoptic liposomes, a natural, perfectly sealed bubble that is created that shields Vitamin C from the degrading elements in the environment and the digestive system…and also protects the digestive system from the Vitamin C (7)”….Due to the size of the nano-particles and their molecular composition, “…liposomes slip right through the digestive system unharmed and unchanged. Then they are readily absorbed by the intestines where they are transported directly to the liver via the lymphatic system…just as if the Vitamin C were manufactured there [in the liver] (8).”

“Autism and autism spectrum disorders [ASD] are complex neurodegenerative disorders (1)” in which the actual cause of these disorders remains unknown. There are a vast array of theories as to the cause of Autism and ASD, but each the causative factor in each case remains individualized. Given the versatility of each case, the focus should remain on ways these individuals might benefit.
According to Bernard Rimland, ph.D., Director of the Autism Research Institute in San Diego, California, “ ‘Autism is not a disease with a specific cause, but rather a syndrome with a combination of abnormal behavioral characteristics’ (2).”
“In the U.S., the annual cost of Autism, including special education programs, is $12 billion. It is estimated that less than 25% of autistic children adjust to adolescence or adulthood, only 5% become self-sufficient as adults, and 40%-70% remain institutionalized for life (3).”
“Recent evidence has suggested that many children with autism have low levels of glutathione in their cells.” A Canadian study was conducted which stated “…that the results were promising (4).”
“Vitamin C has been shown to significantly reduce autistic behavior such as rocking, spinning, and hand flapping (5)” In addition, “Vitamin C also improves cognition, as shown by increased IQ scores in normal and Down’s children (6).” It is also written that supplementation with Vitamin C might be beneficial to individuals with autistic characteristics due to their inability to adequately manage free radicals. In a double-blind study results “…showed that high doses of vitamin C in children with autism had significant positive effects on behavior compared to their own scores when they were taking a placebo ( 7).” An additional study “…showed that high doses of vitamin C may help sleep and gastrointestinal problems in children with autism (8).”
CoQ-10 supplementation with autism could possibly prove beneficial because of the lack of cellular energy. The cells in the body that appear to be the most susceptible to CoQ-10 deficiency "... appears to be greatest in cells that are the most metabolically active (such as those in the heart, brain, immune system, gingiva, and gastric mucosa), since these cells presumably have the highest requirements for CoQ-10 (9).” In theory, one could assume that CoQ-10 supplementation might be needed due to "...nutritional deficiencies; a genetic or acquired defect in CoQ-10 synthesis or utilization; increased tissue needs resulting from a particular illness [and] the requirement to prevent the side effects of medical intervention (10)." Autism could potentially fall into this category.

According to Linus Pauling Institute, “…Studies in cell culture suggest that curcumin can increase cellular glutathione levels by enhancing the transcription genes that encode GCL (1).”
Resveratrol can be described as “a phytoalexin derived from grapes and other food products with antioxidant and potential chemopreventive activities (2).” According to Wikipedia, “the strongest evidence of anti-cancer action of resveratrol exists for tumors it can come into direct contact with, such as the skin and gastrointestinal tract tumors. For other cancers, the evidence is equivocal, even if massive doses of resveratrol are used (3).”
LifeExtension Magazine states that, “One of the things that sets curcumin apart from most other anti-cancer supplements (13C being an exception), is that this phenolic can actually block chemicals from getting inside cells…curcumin has the power to block access to the cell and protect against estrogen mimickers (4).”
In theory, one could assume that CoQ-10 supplementation might be needed due to "...nutritional deficiencies; a genetic or acquired defect in CoQ-10 synthesis or utilization; increased tissue needs resulting from a particular illness [and] the requirement to prevent the side effects of medical intervention (5)."
“The selective toxicity of Vitamin C for cancer cells has been demonstrated in-vitro (i.e., in a cell culture Petri dish), and was reported in 2005 (6).” In his writing, Dr. Robert D. Milne MD, stated that “there is almost no system, organ, gland, or cell in your body that does not derive great benefit from a massive supply of Vitamin C. A basic component of many enzyme reactions throughout the body, it [vitamin C] has natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral properties….In addition, Vitamin C is still one of the most powerful free radical fighters known to man (7).” It is written that “…beyond its antiviral and antibacterial properties, vitamin C acts as an immunostimulant (8)” and “…is unquestionably the master immune boosting nutrient (9).”

Each year thousands of medical doctors meet at the Anti-Aging convention from all over the world. One might wonder their feelings if they were told the answer to aging might be contained in a single nutritional supplement. Wow! What a concept. There is a great deal of information available which support various methods of supplementation in order to slow the progression of aging. It is important to understand the average American diet will do little to extend life on its own. In order to live a longer, more productive life, nutritional intervention might just be the missing piece of the puzzle.
Although there are numerous potential benefits from resveratrol in the anti-aging spectrum, “In humans it is theorized that oral doses of resveratrol may reduce beta amyloid plaque associated with aging changes in the brain (1).”
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum, Carduus marianus), while being well-known for its effects on the liver, also plays a role in the anti-aging process. “Studies since the 1930’s, conducted mainly in Germany, confirmed that silymarin works to stabilize liver membranes and act as an antioxidant to protect liver cells from free radical damage (2).” It is this improvement in the filtration of the liver that boosts the body’s ability to excrete unwanted toxins from their bloodstreams. It is these toxins that might possibly lead to premature aging.
Bacopa, known in India as a “brain tonic” for several thousand years, “…is used to improve memory and learning problems as well as concentration…[In addition] it helps to maintain the structural and functional integrity of the membranes surrounding the mitochondria, a portion of the cell’s DNA that can degenerate with age (3).”
Ashwagandha is an herb that has been used for over 4,000 years in India. In addition, when used as an anti-aging agent, “…it has the capacity of controlling both internal and external stress in [the] human body. Ashwagandha is an immune booster and helps to tackle pre-mature aging by reducing the wrinkles and dark spots…(4).” It is written that “Uperoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase are some of the natural antioxidants present in it. It is very effective in the following ways: strengthening the immune system; relieving stress, amnesia, fever, viral infections, and acts as a natural antioxidant; stimulates the growth of axons and dendrites; [as well as] has anti-anxiety and anti-depression effects (5).” It is these potential effects that give the herb the possible ability to help slow the aging process.
Green Tea Extract is a supplement with powerful antioxidant properties which neutralize free radicals. In addition, “green tea also provides antimicrobial immune system support ( 6 )” which in turn would provide anti-aging benefits as well. Curcumin, according to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, might possibly be a “free-radical scavenger” as well given its antioxidant activity (7).
